Google's Nexus One (not to scale)

January is a big month for the consumer electronics industry. For a few days, Las Vegas becomes the Mecca for anything battery powered as CES (actually called the International Consumer Electronics Show) get underway.

It’s a dangerous time for gadget writers, as the lures of Sin City await them over the next few days, but before they left, a few of them filed stores about which gadgets to watch out for in 2010. Here’s an overview of some of the mutterings that we’ve picked up:

  • Kevin Anderson (The Guardian) – Social Television and Slates
  • Claudine Beaumont & Harry Wallop (Telegraph) – Google’s Nexus One, mobile phone reception boosters and the Provision Axar Box (which streams HD content around the house)
  • Chris Nuttal & Paul Taylor (FT)  – 3DTV, Smartbooks, Google’s Nexus One

Obviously, that’s not a comprehensive list, but clearly mobile consumer tech is a space to watch in 2010 and we’re paying particular attention to comments about the Google’s Nexus One smartphone, which seems to have divided opinion with the leading gadget writers. If anyone has had a first hand go one, we’d love to hear from them.
