Jon Snow and his technicoloured socks

Posted by Adrian July 22 2009 06:02pm

We’ve recently started working with New Horizons Youth Centre and during a planning meeting yesterday, Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow, patron of the charity, dropped by.

When Jon’s on TV you don’t really get to see the lower half of his body, but we discovered that in addition to Jon’s famous ties, his socks are also very flamboyant (although you can’t see them in this photo).

Left to right: Steven Templeman (New Horizons), Shelagh O’Conner (New Horizons), Helen Holland (The Reptile Group), Jon Snow with tie (New Horizons) and Adrian Ma (Komodo PR).

Dot com start-up office interiors: Twitter

Posted by Adrian July 15 2009 09:54am

When I think of a dot com start up’s offices, my mind automatically paints of a picture from the heady ‘bubble’ era – staff sipping cappuccinos from expensive coffee machines while playing table football, plenty of ‘shabby chic’ (Amazon’s famous ‘door desks’ for example) and share certificates dispensers on the walls (in the style of hand towel dispensers in loos), ready to be taken by anyone willing to exchange services for shares.

So has a post-‘bubble’ era, when investors and start ups are more cautious, affected this office interior style? A recent article from Bobbie Johnson at The Guardian reveals some insight about the decorative style of Twitter’s offices. Here are some highlights:

  • They have 52 employees in a spacious office
  • They have a British red phone box and two life-size green deer at their offices
  • P Diddly turned up to their offices to congratulate them on their success and they have a photo of his visit in one meeting room
  • They have a big flat screen TV for staff to play video games during breaks

Clearly, the spirit lives on.

Teens don’t tweet say media planning superstar – aged 15 and 7 months

Posted by Adrian July 14 2009 10:20am

Matthew Robson, aged 15 and 7 months has emerged as an unlikely planning superstar thanks to a report he wrote while at an internship at Morgan Stanley. His colleagues at the company were so impressed with the insights on how teens consume media, they decided to publish it. You’ll be familiar with a lot of findings, but key highlights include:

  • Teens don’t listen to much radio
  • Most teens don’t read newspapers. Those who do, read free newspapers
  • Most teens play console games. PC games require expensive hardware that teens can’t afford
  • Almost all teens have access to the internet and use it for social networking and research
  • Teens are reluctant to use Twitter because it uses up mobile phone credit
  • Teens find ads on websites annoying but they like viral and inventive outdoor advertising
  • Teens love listening to music but hate paying for it. They like to have ‘hard copies’ of songs as opposed to listening to ’streamed’ songs
  • Teens like Sony Ericsson mobile phones because they have a lot of features and are relatively affordable. Most are on pay as you go tariffs
  • More affluent teens have iPods to listen to music, otherwise teens listen to music on their phones

The full report is available to download here.
