Twittering to the top
Posted by Jayne June 24 2009 11:53am
A report out today from Hitwise, the online intelligence service, shows that Twitter traffic has increased 22-fold over the last 12 months, ranking as the 38th most visited website in the UK and the fifth most visited social network, during May 2009.
Wow.
Even more wow when you consider that just one year ago, it was the 969th most visited website and 84th most visited social network.
The report states that Twitter has been the fastest growing major website in the UK over the last 12 months, and it has certainly been the most talked about with a host of high profile celebrity endorsements, by everyone from Stephen Fry to Ashton Kutcher.
And what’s more, Hitwise’s figures may not even reflect the true popularity as they only measured traffic to the main Twitter website and not people accessing their Twitter accounts via mobile phones and third party apps like Twitterific, Twitterfeed and Tweetdeck. If these were included the number could be significantly higher.

Come back Max, all is forgiven!

Now, we’ve never been the biggest fan of Max Clifford, but he does have his uses. Particularly when you see
the disastrous effect of celebrities that have cut him and his public relations team loose and gone it alone – e.g. Kerry Katona’s cringe-worthy TV appearance on the This Morning show.
Jordan appears to be going down the same route. Having recently split from Peter Andre it seems she’s decided that the best way to show that she’s ‘over him’ and ‘in control’ is by plastering herself all over the tabloids and gossip press in various ‘compromising’ situations.
Have a look at these pictures from The Sun and we guarantee that if you weren’t a PR advocate before, you certainly will be afterwards.

Well the latest news is that they’ve now made $3m in sales out of their Twitter feed. Blimey! A great success story about a company who managed to make Twitter work for them. Now to solve the question about how to make Twitter make a profit for its founders *cough*.
If you’d like to join the flock of 620,000 Twitterers who are waiting for Dell’s next sales announcement, follow them here.
Thanks David Muir for the pic.
